A Brief History
The American Association of University Women was founded in 1881, when popular wisdom held that higher education impaired women’s health. With more than 150,000 members in over 1,500 branches nationwide, AAUW is a powerful voice for women and girls. AAUW members are of diverse ages, cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and professions.
The Torrance Branch was chartered in 1968. For over 30 years, our members have worked for equity and education for all women and girls in our community. Currently, we have 80 members living in 15 cities.
