Educational Partners

The Educational Partnership Committee (EPC) is the service arm of the Torrance Branch of AAUW. The EPC is managing branch’s signature program Tech Trek since its inception in 1999.
The Branch EPC Chair with the key volunteers (Branch Members) handle the TechTrek program including communication with the local area middle schools, selecting the girls, advertising the value of the program to the potential sponsors and other related administrative work.

This is a key place to go for a member who:
• Has a desire to give back to the community
• Has limited time (only need about 1-3 hours per month)
• Has creative ideas
• Enjoy a supportive, collaborative group environment
• Has a commitment to helping young women

The EPC Committee focuses on the program that will ensure young girls are given the opportunity to realize their full academic and personal potential.

Tech Trek
Tech Trek is a National Program offered to local branches by the California arm of the national American Association of University Women (AAUW).
The Tech Trek program has already served hundreds of local area young girls and have made a real difference in their lives. In 2004 the EPC won the first grant award in the Torrance Branch’s history when they developed and won a grant proposal to the Copley Foundation for TECH TREK.
The committee has a broad range of activities and roles, including:
• Working directly with the girls
• Helping to select Tech Trek campers
• Developing the guidelines and procedures
• Introducing new community members to the programs (including school administrators, teachers, parents and businesses)
• Fundraising, grant writing, direct solicitations
• Publicity and community outreach
• Hosting annual event

Tech Trek Alumnae Group (TTAG)
One of the best parts of Tech Trek camp is making lasting friendships. Finding a community of like-minded students who love to solve problems and build things and do math and wonder about “what ifs” gives girls a sense of belonging.
Participating at a branch’s in—person Tech Trek Alumnae Group (TTAG) lets former campers continue their journey with others.

The Tech Trek Alumnae Group is a group of high school and middle school girls who attended Tech Trek camp the summer between seventh and eighth grade.

TTAG develops and holds STEM-related events for group members and the South Bay community. The members have hosted Women in STEM Career Panels, College Prep 101 Forums, tours of local STEM companies, an educational screening of He Named Me Malala, charity drives, and more. The planning committee has monthly meetings to organize these events.

South Bay TTAG consists of former Tech Trek campers from three AAUW branches – Torrance, Beach Cities, and Palos Verdes.

In a world where women remain underrepresented in STEM fields like engineering, TTAG offers meaningful exposure to high-demand careers within a global economy. It’s more than a club—it’s a launchpad for the next generation of innovators.
